How to translate a wedding ceremony live for your guests

By Ondřej Plevka, builder of LiveInterpret.AI. Last verified 2026-10-02.

Short answer: feed one clean audio signal from the officiant's and couple's microphones into a live translation service. Guests scan a QR code at the entrance and hear the ceremony, with captions, in their own language on their own phone, with nothing to install. With LiveInterpret.AI a 30-minute ceremony into one language uses 30 language-minutes, covered by the €19 Flex pack.

Disclosure: we build LiveInterpret.AI. Where another approach fits better, we say so below.

What you need

ItemDetail
Audio feedClean audio from the officiant's and couple's microphones through the venue's mixer or PA, or a small mixer you bring. A phone placed in the room works poorly: echo and room noise are what the translation hears.
A laptop or device on the venue networkIt sends the audio feed. Wired or strong Wi-Fi beats guest Wi-Fi.
QR codePrinted on the order of service or a small sign. Guests scan, pick a language, listen. Unlimited guests, no accounts.
EarbudsGuests bring their own. Captions are available for anyone who prefers to read.
One rehearsalPractice mode is free and unlimited, with synthetic translation, so the person running it can test the whole chain beforehand.

Step by step

  1. Choose languages. Name the languages your guests actually speak. Each language is metered separately.
  2. Sign up and rehearse. Create an event page and run practice mode with the venue's real audio at the real venue, ideally at the sound check.
  3. Print the QR code and put it where guests will see it before they sit down.
  4. Start when the ceremony starts and stop when it ends. Billing is connected time, so a rehearsal never costs minutes.
  5. Extend to speeches if you want toasts translated too; the same feed and the same QR code work.

What it costs

Short answer: usage is measured in language-minutes, one event minute in one language. A ceremony of 30 minutes into two languages is 60 language-minutes. The €19 Flex pack has 150, valid 12 months, and new accounts get 30 real minutes free. Guest count never changes the price. Prices EUR, VAT included.

For comparison, interpreter-headset rental typically runs €200–500 per event before the interpreter's fee.

When a person is the better choice: if the registrar or officiant requires an official interpreter, or the ceremony is deeply personal and interactive, use one. AI translation helps guests follow along; it is not a certified translation.

If you host weddings repeatedly, the same setup serves every event. Your name, logo and colors appear on the guest page on every plan; a custom domain is a separate add-on. Start with one wedding as a trial.

FAQ

Do wedding guests need to install an app?

No. Guests scan a QR code and listen or read in their phone's browser, including with the phone locked. There is no account to create. Put the QR code on the order of service or a small sign at the entrance.

How much does it cost to translate a wedding ceremony?

Usage is metered in language-minutes: one minute of the event in one target language. A 30-minute ceremony into one language is 30 language-minutes, into two languages 60. The €19 Flex pack includes 150 language-minutes, valid 12 months; every new account also gets 30 free real language-minutes. Prices are EUR, VAT included. Guest count never changes the price.

What audio does the system need?

One clean audio feed of the speaker: the venue's sound desk, the officiant's or couple's microphone via a mixer, or a venue PA output. Rehearse once beforehand; practice mode uses synthetic translation, is free and unlimited, and costs no minutes.

How accurate is the translation at a wedding?

Quality varies by language pair, and we say so per pair rather than promise perfection. Names, vows and religious or legal formulas deserve a rehearsal with a native speaker. For a legally binding ceremony, an official interpreter may be required by the registrar or officiant; check with them. This is guest understanding, not a certified translation.

Can the venue or planner put their own name on it?

Yes. Your name, logo and colors appear on every plan. A custom domain and full brand removal are a separate paid add-on.

How is this different from a laptop caption app?

Some wedding tools run captions-only from the couple's own computer. LiveInterpret.AI delivers translated audio as well as captions, runs on our servers rather than a laptop someone must babysit, and listeners can lock their phones. Last verified 2026-10-02 against weddingtranslator.ai: $49 one-time, captions only, setup via a Mac download.
